IN MEMORIAM
A Salute to Brenda March
“A beacon of light”
“Service to others is the rent you pay for your room in heaven.”
— Muhammad Ali
Brenda March served the City of Orlando for more than 30 years as a trusted advisor to Mayor Buddy Dyer, including her role as Senior Advisor. She provided visionary leadership for the Parramore Kidz Zone and Holden Heights Kidz Zone, overseeing day to day operations within Families, Parks, and Recreation. Her work focused on strengthening communities through collaboration with grassroots leaders, nonprofit, educational, and faith-based organizations, and she was nationally recognized for her advocacy on behalf of children in underserved communities.
Throughout her career, Mrs. March led and supported numerous transformative initiatives, including America’s Promise Powell Legacy for PKZ, First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative, the Campaign for Black Male Achievement’s Rumble Young Man Rumble, President Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper Orlando, and My Sister’s Keeper Orlando, which she founded. She also played key roles in the Mayor’s Matching Grants program, Citizen Corps, and neighborhood and community planning efforts, often serving as a connector to engage citizens in meaningful civic solutions.
Beyond her public service, Brenda was a devoted wife to Charles and a proud mother of three: sons Joel and Jeremy, Disney Dreamers Academy graduates, and daughter Toushe, an executive and entrepreneur. She served on numerous local and national boards and received many honors, including ONYX Magazine’s Women on the Move, Orlando Magazine’s Women of the Year, the Orlando Magic Diversity Game Maker Award, and multiple lifetime achievement and humanitarian recognitions.
One of her most meaningful legacies was her determination to tell the story of Black male youth in Parramore. When funding for a documentary fell through, she led efforts to raise the resources herself, resulting in the Emmy Award winning sizzle reel ONE WAY, which received four Suncoast Emmy Awards on December 5th, 2025 — the day of her funeral.
