ONYX Women on the Move Honorees

Class of 2019

Congratulations to our Class of 2019 Honorees

ONYX WOTM Woman of the year

Dr. Melissa Freeman

Physician
Beth Israel Hospital

Dr. Freeman, granddaughter of a slave, was pushed to excel in academics by her grandfather and her father. She attended Music and Art High School then a family friend suggested that she become a physician. “I knew I wasn’t going to be a musician. I took physiology in college and I liked science.” Working days and going to college at night led her down the path to Howard University’s College of Medicine (where she graduated in 1955). She eventually went to work for Beth Israel Medical Center where she’s been for over 50 years.
